Sixth Form Students Charity Cycle Tour

A team of 5 students aged 16 to 18 are set to cycle over 500 miles for charity in July.

The BTE Academy students will cycle over 500 miles in 5 days. The students are raising money for Motor Neurone Disease and have been kindly supported by MBDA missile systems and GKN Aerospace. The Cycle tour takes place on Monday 7th to Friday 11th July.

The sixth form students have had an intensive training programme which started in January with subsidised spinning sessions at Bradley Stoke Sport Centre. Training and qualifying rides, of up to 60 miles a day, took place during the holidays to keep the training program running smoothly.

The BTE Academy is one of the elite University Technical Colleges where 14-19 year old students gain highly academic qualifications with specialist and work-based skills. To celebrate this the students will cycle between several UTCS. Leaving Bristol on Monday 7th July, students will cycle to Reading and then on to Bedfordshire. After cycling to Buckinghamshire on Tuesday they will carry onto Silverstone and call in at Daventry, before visiting the JCB UTC on Wednesday 9th July. The students will continue onto the Black Country before stopping at Aston UTC and finishing their 500 mile round trip back in Bristol.

Speaking about the Bike Ride, Principal, Rhian Priest said:“The students have been training very hard, they have shown incredible dedication on top of a packed day of curriculum and projects work. I am very proud of their achievements”

Student, Marcus Clarke said:“I have been cycling to school and back and enjoying our practice rides so I am really geared up for this challenge. We are raising money for Motor NeuroneDisease but will also need support for nutrition, bikes and clothing”
