NewLaw appoints new department head

NewLaw Solicitors, the leading UK law firm which has its headquarters in Cardiff, has appointed Garret Spring to the role of head of occupational illness and disease.

The role will involve supervising NewLaw’s team of specialists in occupational disease, overseeing the day to day operations and expanding the team’s remit in order to grow the business.

Mr Spring, 41, originally from London, has over 20 years of experience in the area, having represented both claimants and defendants over the course of his career. His career highlights include working in the field of sports injuries, acting on behalf of promising young footballers whose careers have been cut short because of injury.

NewLaw’s occupational illness and disease team works with clients who have developed a variety of health problems as a result of their job, for example individuals who have contracted nasal cancer through exposure to solvents  used in furniture production and fibres used in the textile and carpet   industries. Other conditions handled by the team include asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma, lung cancer, bladder cancer, dermatitis, asthma, repetitive strain injury, hand-arm vibration syndrome and noise-induced hearing loss.

On his appointment Mr Spring said: “I’m looking forward to using my experience to make an impact on the company at a local, regional and national level by expanding the work the team is able to take on and continuing to provide a first class service to our clients who are at the heart of everything we do.

“I was attracted to NewLaw because of its ethos which puts the customer at the centre of the business. There is a lot of campaigning and awareness-raising involved in the field of occupational health as many of the cases we see are historical. People often don’t see the link between a current health problem and a job that was held tens of years ago, which is why our clients need to know we’re on their side.”

Helen Molyneux, chief executive of NewLaw, commented: “In just a short time Garret has already demonstrated his enthusiasm and commitment to the role and I look forward to working with him to develop his plans for the occupational disease arm of the business.”

NewLaw Solicitors is one of the leading legal practices in the country and has one of the largest, most experienced catastrophic injury teams in the UK.  Every year it helps thousands of injured people recover the compensation they deserve following life changing accidents and raises thousands of pounds for the charities that work with its clients. NewLaw has offices in Cardiff, Bristol, Basingstoke and Glasgow.
