Lawyers putting their best feet forward for charity

Two partners at South West law firm Ashfords LLP are donning their running shoes for the Virgin London marathon, with the aim of raising funds for Sue Ryder, the firm’s charity of the year. And they are looking for others to join them!

Bristol-based Garry Mackay and Andrew Betteridge will take on the gruelling 26.2 mile challenge on April 22, 2012 and whilst Garry has previously competed in a number of marathons and half marathons for charity, this is Andrew’s first competitive race. It will be the second time Garry has run the London Marathon, having also taken part in 2005.

Since May, when the partnership between Ashfords and Sue Ryder was launched, the firm has raised thousands of pounds for the charity, with a variety of events across Ashfords’ five South West offices, in Exeter, Bristol, Plymouth, Taunton and Tiverton.

Garry Mackay said: “It is going to be challenging, but the training is going well and hopefully we will raise thousands of pounds for the charity. As a firm, we are proud to support Sue Ryder, which provides a vital service in the community for people needing end of life care.”

Chris Andrews, for Sue Ryder, said: “We are very pleased that Garry and Andrew are taking part in the marathon and would like to thank Ashfords for its continued support. We would like to wish them the very best of luck in the event.”

The charity is also looking for people to join Garry and Andrew in their challenge. Chris Andrews said: “If you have a place in the London Marathon, we would love you to join our team and run in aid of Sue Ryder. You will be well supported in the build up to the race, and we will be there to cheer you on on the day. Running for Sue Ryder is a very rewarding experience – this is your chance to get involved!”

Sue Ryder provides end of life and long-term care for people living with conditions including; Cancer, Stroke, Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and Motor Neurone Disease.
