Young people in Derby will now have the chance to develop engineering skills following a deal which sees training provider Engineered Learning take up premises in the city.
The firm, which provides BTEC and AIM accredited work experience to pre-16-year-old students within the engineering sector, is now based at Coleman’s Yard in Alfreton Road following a deal brokered by commercial property consultant Innes England.
Mike Walmisley, surveyor at Innes England’s Derby office, oversaw the deal on the 2,137 sq ft industrial unit.
He said: “We were delighted to welcome Dan Read of Engineered Learning to Coleman’s Yard. He is providing an invaluable training to youngsters in a particularly useful trade, who will be well equipped to commence their working life.
“With excellent progression routes into further education and local employment, there should be plenty of opportunities within the engineering profession with the success of a number of key Derby employers such as Rolls-Royce, Bombardier and Toyota.”
Dan Read, owner of Engineered Learning, said: “The main emphasis of the accredited work experience that we offer is to develop engineering skills within young people with a nationally recognised qualification. We have quickly become established as a symbol of quality, providing industry with young people with a strong work ethic.
“Aiming to instil work readiness, confident hand skills, with the manufacture of saleable products, each individual will gain valuable real-life work experience as they will be engaged with real work within the training programme.
“While the target will be the acquisition of new engineering-focused skills, by using a real-life scenario, very useful and transferable skills are also developed, supporting independent living.
Engineered Learning is engaging students from across the city of Derby and is actively seeking engineering work to support this training programme. This would be an excellent opportunity for the city to invest in Derby’s young people.
