Tecomex expands into Coventry office

A network security and digital forensics firm is hoping to crack into new markets after expanding into new premises in Coventry.

Tecomex Forensics Ltd provides specialist network security, digital forensics, research, and computer security training services to clients across the UK and abroad.

The company was set up in 2010 by Dr Idris Ahmed, a doctor of Cryptology – which is the mathematical science of designing and breaking security systems.

The company uses digital forensic technology to assist with the investigation of cybercrime as well as helping to identify a company’s network security weaknesses by simulating real-life hacker attacks.

Tecomex Forensics has very recently undertaken a high-profile High Court forensics litigation job, and is currently working with a number of high-profile clients across the region.

And the firm is now hoping to expand its operations after opening its UK headquarters within Ignite space at the University of Warwick Science Park’s Business Innovation Centre in Binley.

The Ignite programme offers a flexible mix of space and support from the Science Park’s Business Support Service to develop and grow start-up and early stage companies.

Dr Idris Ahmed, CEO and founder of Tecomex Forensics Ltd, said: “We set up the company back in 2010 and it is still very much a family-run firm.

“We currently have a number of freelance staff who work with us on a regular basis and we are hoping to hire more permanent staff as the company continues to grow over the next couple of years.

“As part of this expansion, we are also hoping to extend our operations overseas and have already started to target emerging markets in Africa and Asia.

“We recently registered the company in Nigeria and we are opening offices over there so that we will be able to offer security training services to the Nigerian security proprietors including their police force.”

Dr Ahmed added: “Due to the nature of digital forensics job, and indeed network security, we often have to deal with privileged, sensitive, and confidential client information.”

“It was therefore extremely important for us to be based at a site which has the necessary security levels in place to ensure this information is kept well protected. Clients’ confidentiality is at the core of our operation. To this end, we felt that the Binley Innovation Centre was perfect for that.

“We have been very pleased with the services we have received from the University of Warwick Science Park so far and we are hoping to expand our space here by creating a training facility and a digital forensics lab.”

Dirk Schafer, of the Science Park, is working with the firm through Ignite to help promote the business.

He said: “Technical companies, very often, tend to undersell their services. But, through Ignite, we are able to address this through our specialist technical marketing team and that means companies such as Tecomex can really make a mark.”

Penny Robb, centre manager at the University of Warwick Science Park’s Business Innovation Centre in Binley, is delighted to have added Tecomex Forensics to the varied portfolio of companies based at the site.

She said: “It is fantastic that Tecomex has settled in well to Ignite space at the centre and it is great to see that they have plans to expand and develop the company both within the region and overseas.

“The Ignite space is there for fledgling companies who are establishing an external office for the first time and need a little bit of help in doing so.”
