Harbourside developer crowned sustainable housebuilder of the year

Crest Nicholson, the developer responsible for transforming Bristol’s historic floating harbour, with its Harbourside development, has been crowned Sustainable Housebuilder of the Year at the 2011 Housebuilder Awards

The highly coveted accolade recognises Crest Nicholson’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development, along with the extent to which it succeeds in balancing economic, environmental and social considerations to deliver genuinely sustainable mixed-use communities.

Now in their seventh year the Housebuilder Awards, delivered in association with NHBC and the Home Builders Federation, offer a showcase of best practice ideas and technology.

The awards aim to recognise companies which are demonstrating a real commitment to innovation in the housebuilding industry with the winners all having been recognised for driving forward quality in the delivery of new homes.

As one of the country’s largest mixed use developments, Harbourside has transformed a derelict, 16-acre site in the heart of Bristol into a vibrant place where people can live, relax and work right on the waterside of the city’s historic floating harbour.

Reflecting the new needs of the city where the harbour has become a leisure asset rather than a working port there are numerous bars and restaurants, a health club, casino and hotel that has created an atmosphere of security and well being.

These blend seamlessly with the selection of properties that has made the area arguably the most desirable place to live in the South West.

Susan Young, sales and marketing director at Crest Nicholson said: “This is fantastic news and we’re delighted to have won such a prestigious award. As a responsible developer, creating integrated and sustainable communities forms a core part of Crest Nicholson’s business strategy.
“The need to reduce carbon emissions and tackle the problems posed by climate change remains an integral part of our mission and sustainability in its broadest sense delivers real business value.

“For this reason we continue to drive forward, innovate and explore the use of new technologies that will ensure sustainable standards start to become more of the norm.”
