Cornwall’s first fudge pantry is a family affair

The Wardell family from Essex have opened the county’s first Roly’s Fudge Pantry shop in on Church Street in Falmouth.

Roly’s Fudge Pantry is an international franchise which originated as a small business in Devon over twenty years ago and now has more than eighteen shops across the UK, USA and Ireland.

The shops offer a unique customer experience with staff making handmade fresh fudge on the premises every day in full view of shoppers.

Steve and Chelle Wardell, who’ve recently moved to Cornwall from Essex with their teenage children (Reece, Chloe & Sophie), underwent 3 days of intensive training to learn the craft of fudge making in order to run the business.

Chelle Wardelle says the recipe to Roly’s fudge is top secret but all the ingredients are locally sourced including Roddas cream and Cornish Sea Salt.

She says “We’ll be cooking fresh fudge in large copper pans in the shop every day.

The first passer’s by will know of us will be the smell of hot fudge wafting out into the street.
We’re hoping it’ll entice them in to have a taster of our seasonal Christmas pudding, Amaretto Disaronno and Whisky &Ginger flavours. We have lots of seasonal gift ideas for everyone and our fresh fudge has a shelf life of 3 months.”

The Wardell’s lease for the retail premises on Church Street was negotiated by Garry Becconsall at Miller Commercial Chartered Surveyors.

Garry says “Initially Steve and Chelle were looking for business premises in Falmouth and St Ives but plumped for Falmouth when the premises in Church Street became available.

Many of the national chains looking to establish a foothold in Cornwall which we deal with look to Truro and Falmouth first.

The fact that an international franchise such as Roly’s is keen to set up shop in Falmouth is another indication the town’s high street is thriving.”
