Eco office park scoops green award at ProCon 2013

The company behind a ground breaking eco office park in Ratby is celebrating after its purpose-built offices scooped the sustainability accolade at Leicestershire’s property and construction awards.

Pear Tree Office Park, which was built by Cawrey Ltd and is currently being marketed by Mather Jamie, was awarded the sustainable development accolade at the ProCon Leicestershire Awards 2013.

John Cawrey, Managing Director of Cawrey Ltd, comments: “We are surprised and delighted to receive this award for our sustainability.

“This is fantastic recognition for everyone involved in bringing Pear Tree Office Park to fruition and we hope it will help people to understand what we are trying to achieve here and encourage businesses to think about going green.

“We were up against some very strong competition and much bigger projects, but are incredibly proud that it was our innovation and quirkiness that won voters’ hearts.”

Pear Tree Office Park, on Desford Lane, features nine purpose-built offices from Cawrey Ltd, which benefit from sedum roofs, natural ventilation, high levels of insulation and underfloor heating via a biomass boiler.

The highly insulated building also benefits from large south-facing windows, while locally grown willow coppice is used to fuel the biomass boiler.
Work areas feature LED lighting with motion control and all units are pre-wired for power and network systems.

The combination of sustainable features has led to Pear Tree Office Park meeting BREEAM ‘very good’ standards and achieving an ‘A’ rated Energy Performance Certificate.

Alex Reid of Mather Jamie comments: “This award demonstrates that Pear Tree Office Park is leading the way in environmentally friendly office space.

“This purpose-built development features offices designed for the future, as the high number of sustainable features will help to minimise running and occupational costs for businesses, while also looking after the environment.

“These offices have been primarily designed for small to medium local businesses, which people may have previously been operating from home, and each unit offers a high quality work space.

“The location of the park provides very good access to the M1 and Leicester, and also benefits from an attractive rural setting.”

Pear Tree Office Park welcomed its first residents earlier this year when Evolve Management Consultants moved into one of the units due to its groundbreaking environmental design.
