Birmingham business professionals throw themselves off a tall building… and raise thousands!

Charity abseilPeople paid to see accountants, bankers and lawyers throw themselves off a tall building in Birmingham!

A sponsored abseil took centre stage at a family fun day held by Edward’s Trust at The Binding Site on Calthorpe Road.

Around 50 people abseiled down the 100 ft building, including teams from accountants Chantrey Vellacott DFK, Tyndallwoods Solicitors, Barclays and specialist protein company The Binding Site. The event raised around £12,000 and is expected to rise to close to £20,000 once all sponsorship funds are collected.

Edward’s Trust supports children and families during serious illness and bereavement and needs to raise £500,000 of funding every year.

Stephanie Bradbury, Edward’s Trust fundraising and development manager, said: “It was a fantastic day and we’re grateful to everyone who contributed to making the event an overwhelming success especially The Binding Site who have helped to make this possible and been such fantastic supporters of Edward’s Trust over the last couple of years.

“We’re thrilled the local community came out in such force and helped us raise a significant amount of money to support our care for families.

“Costs were kept to a minimum thanks to the generosity of local companies including The Binding Site, Raise Scaffolding, Chantrey Vellacott DFK and Betty Rose China and the fantastic help received from all our volunteers.”

Suk Aulak, partner at Chantrey Vellacott DFK in Birmingham, added: “Through the close working relationship we have with Judy Dyke at Tyndallwoods, who is a long-standing patron of the charity, we know all about the fantastic work the Edward’s Trust does.

“We were delighted to be involved in what was a brilliant community day in aid of a worthy cause.”

Chantrey Vellacott DFK partner Paul Fenner abseiled on the day. He said: “This was very different to any fundraising we’ve been involved in as a firm before and was a thrilling experience.”

The event was the first sponsored abseil held by the Edward’s Trust and could become an annual fixture.
