Budding South Devon cricketing talent given help by Wollen Michelmore

Up and coming cricketers in South Devon are being championed by leading area law firm Wollen Michelmore.

The firm will be sponsoring the one of the largest junior cricket leagues in Devon.

The Wollen Michelmore South Devon Youth Cricket League, as it is now known, has 19 member clubs covering a huge geographical area from Kingsbridge to Shaldon, Chudleigh to Chagford, It’s anticipated close to 1,000 young people will play and enjoy cricket through the League this coming season.

Wollen Michelmore has a strong commitment to supporting local cricket in South Devon. The firm also sponsors the shirts for three senior and several junior teams at South Devon Cricket Club.

Managing Partner Chris Hart said: “The sponsorship agreement is initially for one year but we hope it can be extended to a long-term partnership. We are hoping also to explore various projects where the SDYCL and Wollen Michelmore can combine knowledge and resources to help promote the game of cricket around the area.”

Chris Partridge took on the role of chairman at the Wollen Michelmore South Devon Youth Cricket League in December and says the sponsorship is an important part of a range of new and exciting changes: “The age range of the league has been extended at both ends, with new divisions for Under 10 and Under 19 players, while the new Under 13s Girls division also offers the first ever opportunity for all-girl teams to play competitive hardball cricket against each other.

“Additionally, we are hoping to bring the whole cricket community of South Devon closer together by working alongside the South Devon Cricket Coaches Association (SDCCA). A ‘Coaching For All’ workshop has been jointly organised by both parties to help would-be coaches learn new skills before the start of the upcoming cricket season.”
