Quayside has officially began work on its major leisure-led transformation, marking the start of a new era for Salford’s unique waterside destination.
Following planning approval earlier this year, development is now underway on the first phase of a £16m investment, which will deliver a significant expansion of leisure space and create a more experience-led destination for the local community and visitors.
The first phase of works is scheduled to complete in summer 2027, with Hyperdrive Karting and Hollywood Bowl expected to open later in the year in autumn 2027.
Hyperdrive Karting will bring a next-generation indoor karting concept to Quayside spanning 47,000 sqft, featuring high-performance electric karts and an immersive racing experience, as part of the wider transformation of the upper mall. The development will also pave the way for Hollywood Bowl, which will occupy a 33,000 sqft unit, alongside further enhancements to Quayside’s retail and leisure offer, with more established leisure and retail operators to be announced ahead of first phase completion next year.

With construction now underway, we’re looking forward to seeing the transformation take shape, ahead of welcoming new experiences including Hyperdrive Karting and Hollywood Bowl to Quayside in 2027.”
As part of the wider investment programme, Quayside is also progressing a second phase of improvements to its car park. The works will enhance the arrival experience and support improved accessibility and customer flow across the destination.
The complete transformation of Quayside will see the remodelled upper mall focused on larger-format leisure uses, while retail will remain concentrated in the lower mall. The latest investment builds on the success of recent openings including Kargo MKT, Brewski’s Big Tray BBQ, Oxygen indoor activity park and TeeClub, which have helped reposition Quayside towards leisure and community-focused uses.
Construction is now underway, with the first phase of the new-look Quayside set to complete in summer 2027.
