In a deal brokered by Charles Darrow, SHAKA, the new smash burger and beers spot, is opening its doors having taken the site of the Angel Bar & Restaurant in Totnes, located at the top of the High Street, with a simple mission: banging burgers, good people & good vibes.
Named after the Shaka hand gesture – a universal symbol of positivity, connection and taking life a little less seriously, it’s a form of gratitude – SHAKA is built on feel-good energy from the griddle to the bar. It’s about showing up, hanging out, and enjoying seriously good burgers without fuss.
“SHAKA comes from a love of great food, great beer and community. We wanted to create a place where people can chill, grab a pint from our Devon suppliers and enjoy a smash burger with a twist. We can’t wait to welcome Totnes in & be a new addition to the top of town!” says co-founder Harley Gonzales.
“SHAKA is fully independent and comes from our shared passion of working in hospitality. We love what we do and excited to combine our skills and create a super fun place to be. I just want to sit in the garden in the Summer, burger sauce running down my face and wash it down with a crispy beer with friends. It’s going to be RAD!” says co-founder Dicky Harrison.
Jon Clyne, Director at Charles Darrow, commented: “It is great to see such a popular site being taken on by another strong independent operator. Totnes very much supports its own, and we look forward to welcoming SHAKA when it opens its doors. While challenges remain in the leisure and hospitality market – not helped by limited government support for hospitality businesses – appetite for quality sites such as this continues, with this transaction concluding in just over five weeks.”
Located at 50 High Street, SHAKA brings street-food energy and laid-back attitude to the heart of Totnes. Expect fast service, big flavours, a buzzing atmosphere, and a soundtrack designed to keep the vibes high. SHAKA officially opens at Easter.
