New CEO at The South West Cyber Resilience Centre (SWCRC)

Steve Shepherd

Following a highly successful launch in 2021 and immediate impact on the business community, the SWCRC has announced the appointment of new CEO, Steve Shepherd.

‘Steve brings with him a rich and varied background, ready to tackle the challenges of cyber resilience. With over 25 years at Devon and Cornwall Police, he has become a trusted specialist in online safety and digital technology. His knowledge isn’t just from the police force; he’s also run his own small businesses, undertaken consultancy, and steered a community interest company to charitable status. All of these attributes and skills will help him drive the SWCRC through its next phase of growth and development, as it becomes recognised as an essential tool for businesses and charities in the South West to build their cyber resilience,’ said Mark Moore, outgoing CEO.

Steve Shepherd added ‘I envisage a future where cyber security is accessible and actionable for all, particularly for businesses and charities in the region. I am dedicated to demystifying cyber security, ensuring that it becomes an integral, manageable aspect of business strategy for our members. I’ve loved working with organisations and children in my previous roles and now I’m relishing the opportunity to help build a more resilient digital future for the South West.’

The SWCRC is part of a national network funded by regional police forces and the Home Office to work directly with organisations to build their digital safety. The team have ambitious targets to give all businesses, charities and education providers access to the information and advice available through the SWCRC. ‘We provide a free service, paid for by government and our community-minded sponsors. We hope as many business owners as possible will see that cyber crime is avoidable through taking a few simple actions, and we’re here to help them build their defences against cyber criminals.’ added Steve. ‘Just go to our website and sign up!’

While Steve spends much of his time grappling with cyber security, he also finds time to enjoy the South West Coast Path with his dog, Marbles, and is a published author.
