National law firm Clarke Willmott LLP has made a raft of internal promotions as part of its commitment to people development, with ten Taunton lawyers included in the announcement.

Laura Mackain-Bremner has been promoted to partner in the commercial and private client litigation team. Laura specialises in commercial disputes, contentious wills, trusts and probate and agricultural property litigation. Laura has been with Clarke Willmott since 2017 when she moved from a boutique litigation firm in London. She is also the Vice President of Taunton Chamber of Commerce, sits on the committee of the South West Women in Agriculture network and a member of the Agricultural Law Association.

Tom Potts has also been promoted to partner in the growing corporate team. Tom advises businesses at all stages of the cycle, including on acquisitions, disposals, investments, shareholder agreements and restructures, with a particular specialism in start-ups and investments. Tom joined Clarke Willmott in 2018 after working as senior in-house counsel at one of the UK’s largest equity crowdfunding companies. Whilst there, he played a leading role in developing their legal process and completing their largest and most complex transactions.

Making the switch from associate to senior associate in Taunton are Carly Blunn, home sales; Harriet Neusinger, private capital; Emma Barry, tax and trusts; Kayleigh Cullis, debt recovery; Irene Richardson, commercial property and Mel Smith, commercial property.

Also promoted are Ben Tasker in private capital and James Dunster in property litigation, both making the transition from solicitor to associate.

Kirill Bingham, head of the Taunton office, said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce the latest round of promotions. Offering career opportunities, progression and a work/life balance remain part of our core values as we continue to grow the Taunton office, whilst delivering a first-class legal service.”

New CEO of Clarke Willmott, Peter Swinburn, said: “I’m pleased to announce this year’s internal promotions. As always, this is an opportunity to recognise the strength of talent and diversity we have across the firm. It’s a pleasure to see how those being promoted have already stepped up in readiness for their new roles.

“Our people sit at the centre of our success and the excellent client service we offer. Ensuring their development is fundamental and part of creating a great people experience. The people we promote have all shown the skills, talent and aptitude vital for us to take advantage of future opportunities.”

Daniel Jones, Clarke Willmott’s director of human resources, said: “I am delighted that of the 29 lawyers promoted nationally, 20 are women. It demonstrates our commitment to building an inclusive and equitable environment where everyone can reach their full potential.”
