Property consultancy Alder King has announced two promotions in its Bristol office. Emma Smith, from the firm’s agency team, becomes a partner and Hugh Collins is promoted to senior surveyor in the residential development and energy team.

Emma developed her expertise over the past 11 years specialising in the industrial and logistics sector. Currently working with national and regional developer and occupier clients, Emma proactively supports a range of clients including St Modwen, Rockhaven, Travis Perkins, Walters Land and Mileway.

Her in-depth knowledge of the region’s industrial property market enables Emma to provide invaluable advice to her clients. In this dynamic sector it is increasingly important to ensure clients are aware of a range of potential options. Combined with her can-do attitude and strong work ethic, Emma consistently delivers creative market-facing solutions.

She also acts as a mentor to the next generation of Alder King sector specialists, sharing her knowledge and offering guidance and support.

Outside of Alder King, Emma was recently chair of the Bristol Industrial Agents Society. Supporting and promoting the interests of the industrial sector within the region, she continues her work with the Society as a committee member.

Hugh joined Alder King in 2018 and provides acquisition and disposal advice to developers and landowners across both the residential development and energy sectors.

Recent residential transactions include advising landowners on entering promotion agreements on nine acres of land at Tytherington in South Gloucestershire and over 50 acres of land at Frome in Somerset. Hugh has also provided complex site development consultancy for larger residential and mixed-use development sites, including appraisal and viability work.

Within Alder King’s energy team, Hugh has been instrumental in winning new acquisition instructions for two large-scale battery developers. He was also responsible for the acquisition of over 3,000 acres of land for new utility scale energy projects for JBM Solar (now part of RWE, the UK’s largest power producer), and the acquisition of five sites across the country for Conrad Energy for new flexible energy generation schemes.

Emma and Hugh’s promotions follow a very successful year for Alder King. There were strong performances across many disciplines, including agency, residential development and planning, and across Alder King’s office network, particularly Gloucester, Swindon and Exeter.

Senior partner Simon Smith said: “Emma and Hugh are both talented individuals and have made an extremely valuable contribution to the firm in recent years, demonstrating initiative and hard work. We’re very pleased to recognise and reward their commitment and look forward to supporting Emma and Hugh’s further career development in the years to come.”
