South Wales law firm chooses charity of the year

One of South Wales’ leading legal firms will provide support for Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales throughout 2013 as the charity celebrates its 21st anniversary.

Newport-based HardingEvans has selected the charity for the ‘amazing work’ they do for children with cerebral palsy, providing specialist Bobath therapy to children from all over Wales. Bobath therapists work together combining three disciplines, physiotherapy, speech & language therapy and occupational therapy to deliver a specialist service to children who are referred to them by their consultant paediatricians.

HardingEvans has previously supported Bobath by sponsoring event programmes and more recently its newsletter. However, this year they plan to increase their fundraising to include, among other things, a sponsored Newport Wellie Walk, a cake bake, the Cardiff Half Marathon and a number of quiz nights.

Cerebral palsy is a neurological condition which affects the brain and nervous system. It is caused by damage to the brain, which normally occurs before, during or soon after birth.

Ken Thomas, Partner and Head of Clinical Negligence said: “As a firm, one of our areas of expertise is clinical negligence and it is through this work that we first encountered Bobath, representing children and families who have been affected by cerebral palsy caused by medical neglect. Our probate team also assists with Deputyship applications which are also relevant to cerebral palsy families. We have therefore seen first-hand the heartache and practical challenges that looking after a child with cerebral palsy can bring, but also the wonderful benefits that Bobath Therapy can offer.

“What Bobath does is inspiring and vitally important to hundreds of families and we are extremely proud to support this charity in any way we can.”

Gail Griffiths, fundraising manager from Bobath, said: “The support of Welsh businesses is invaluable to the work that we carry out so we are very grateful for all the fundraising that they undertake on our behalf. We have had links with HardingEvans for a number of years now and we know that the legal services they can provide for families is crucial. We are delighted to have their support during our 21st birthday year.”
