Herman Miller signs for 92,510 sq ft Wiltshire warehouse and distribution centre

On behalf of Panther Securities PLC Group, Carter Jonas has secured a new occupier at Canal Road Industrial Estate, Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

Herman Miller, the global producer of office furniture, equipment, and home furnishings, has agreed on an eight-year lease for The Consortium, a 92,510 sq. ft. warehouse, distribution and office space in one of Wiltshire’s most popular trading sites.

Herman Miller opened its first factory in the UK nearly 40 years ago. Today it operates out of Portal Mill, its state-of-the-art, custom-built factory in Melksham, Wiltshire. Its new Trowbridge location provides additional warehouse and distribution space for the producer’s market-leading office furniture, including workstations, task chairs and soft seating, supplying businesses across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The Consortium occupies nearly six acres on Canal Road Industrial Estate. Its detached warehouse element is constructed with a steel portal frame with a height to pitch of 12 metres and has multiple loading doors and six dock levellers. Access is via electrically operated barriers. The property’s three-storey office facility includes a reception area, meeting rooms and various workstations. It also benefits from generous parking facilities and attractive outside areas.

Charles Winn-Jones, Europe Operations Director, Herman Miller, commented: “The investment into the new Distribution Centre is part of the company’s business strategy, which seeks to improve competitiveness and delivery times, as well as more space for expanding operations in our domestic and European markets.”

Alison Williams, Partner, South West Commercial, Carter Jonas said: “Canal Road remains an attractive and ever-popular trading estate and is an ideal place for Herman Miller to expand its operations in the South West. Its strategic location, with good access to the M4 and A303, continues to appeal to a number of the UK’s leading commercial occupiers requiring distribution hubs and office space in the area. By adding to the estate line-up, Herman Miller’s commitment underlines the quality of the space and the popularity of Trowbridge as one of the region’s important commercial hubs.”
