Developer Robert Hitchins Ltd has handed over the keys for a brand new store to MKM Building Supplies in Kingsway Park in Gloucester.

Michael Plimmer, Senior Development Manager for Robert Hitchins Ltd, said: “We’re delighted to see this development reach practical completion stage.

“We started discussions with MKM about our site in Kingsway in 2021. They had a requirement for Gloucester and it felt like Kingsway was an ideal fit to serve the south of the city, situated just off the A38 with direct access to thousands of new homes and alongside some great complementary retailers.

“Having worked closely with their property team over the last 12 months, we have been able to design and obtain planning for a facility that meets their exact requirements and we are really pleased that our contractor E G Carter has been able to deliver this 20,000 sq ft building for us, not just on budget but also ahead of time.

“It has been a really successful development and we wish MKM Building Supplies every success.”

The MKM Building Supplies Gloucester branch in Newhaven Road is due to open in November to both the public and trade customers. The company is the UK’s largest independent builders’ merchant.

Branch Director for MKM, Charles McArthur, said: “We’re really excited to be opening a local merchant with local people. We will deliver unrivalled customer service at affordable prices to both retail and trade customers. Robert Hitchins and E G Carter have developed a wonderful new branch for us to build a business that is integral to Gloucester for many years to come. Our property team will now start the shop fitting which includes our beautiful kitchen and bathroom showroom and landscaping display.

“We are looking forward to working alongside our local charity and sports club partners to give back to our community and make it a better place. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through our doors to share in the MKM experience.”

Mark Harries, Associate Director for contractors E G Carter, said: “It has been a pleasure working with Robert Hitchins again in providing a fantastic new store for MKM Building Supplies. The project has been a true collaboration of all parties from the outset, which was completed to budget and under programme.”

The arrival of MKM on a 20-year lease marks the completion of the Kingsway Business Park which forms part of a major mixed-use scheme on the site of the former 340-acre RAF Quedgeley.

Other national brands brought to Kingsway by Robert Hitchins include ASDA, Lidl, B&M, PureGym and Greene King.
