Cushman & Wakefield announces senior recruit to lead its dedicated Repurposing team

David Tonks, International Partner, Cushman & Wakefield

Cushman & Wakefield has made a major hire to lead its dedicated Repurposing team which is focused on delivery of repositioning services for under-performing assets.

David Tonks will rejoin Cushman & Wakefield as an International Partner from the Government Property Agency. He previously spent 30 years at Cushman & Wakefield, leading the Birmingham leasing team and advising on some of the city’s most significant development projects.

In his new role, he will be responsible for delivering Cushman & Wakefield’s Repurposing work for private sector clients, working closely with Kathryn Wood (Partner, Development & Strategic Advisory), Keith Hardman (Head of UK Development & Strategic Advisory), Charles Whitworth (Head of Residential) and David Haynes (Head of Specialist Markets). He will have a national remit and will be based from Cushman & Wakefield’s Birmingham office at No.1 Colmore Square.

The team deploys expert sector knowledge across mainstream and specialist markets, with technical skills in leasing, capital markets, planning and development, alongside data analytics tools to advise clients on options to improve value and returns and deliver the transformation of under-performing assets. The team is currently advising on major projects for institutional investors, REITs, property companies, occupiers and overseas investors.

David Haynes, Head of Specialist Markets at Cushman & Wakefield, said: “Our growing Repurposing team is already involved in some of the most exciting and challenging mandates in the industry and has a proven track record deploying our expert teams and innovative data analytics tools. As one of the most respected advisers in the industry, renowned for providing strategic advice to occupiers and working on landmark development projects, David is the ideal person to lead our team. His return is fantastic news for our clients who are increasingly seeking our expert knowledge co-ordinated across sectors, as well as strategic advice to generate the best value from their assets.”

Tonks’ appointment closely follows that of Marcus Wood who also rejoins Cushman & Wakefield as Head of UK Retail Capital Markets from JLL where he was a Director in its Capital Markets Asset Repositioning team

George Roberts, Head of UK & Ireland at Cushman & Wakefield, said: “We are excited to welcome back David who has a fantastic longstanding track record in advising clients on development opportunities. His appointment and the recent announcement of Marcus Wood’s return further strengthens our expertise on the repurposing of assets and advising clients on alternative uses to preserve or enhance value.”
