New Bath ‘Hampton by Hilton hotel’ tops out ahead of schedule

A new 202-bedroom Hampton by Hilton hotel in Bath has reached a significant construction milestone with the building’s structure ‘Topped Out’ ahead of its targeted opening in early 2022, with the project set to further support Bath’s post pandemic recovery.

Located within a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the six-storey hotel which is being developed by Dominvs Group and constructed by McAleer & Rushe will bring life and vibrancy to the Bath Conservation Area.

The finished hotel will include a bar, restaurant and gym at street level, improving the public realm, the local streetscape and the views from the hills. The building façade has been designed to maintain and complement the character and high-quality architecture of the area whilst bringing a modern twist. The project supports the Bath spatial strategy to bring more hotels to the city and the development of intricate and contemporary buildings, that will stay true to the soul of the area.

Jay Ahluwalia, Director of Dominvs Group, said: “We are thrilled to celebrate this significant milestone for our Hampton by Hilton hotel in Bath. This past year has been extremely difficult for the industry and reaching this point in the development ahead of schedule, is testament to the brilliant individuals and teams working across the project. Once the hotel opens next year, it will serve as a vibrant and social hub for the local community which will be vital in supporting Bath’s post-pandemic recovery.”

Construction formally began in September 2019 and 120 operatives are due on site at peak construction level. The structure includes a reinforced concrete frame with a façade of locally sustainably sourced Bath stone and a zinc effect cladding that seamlessly fits into the city’s-built environment.

Commenting, Mark Diamond, Senior Director at McAleer & Rushe said, “There has certainly been several obstacles to overcome the past year and our team have shown great determination to get us to where we are today. We are incredibly grateful to have a longstanding relationship with Dominvs that is based on collaboration and trust especially during such difficult times and this project is a prime example of its success. This begins the final chapter of the construction and we look forward to delivering the hotel on time and to the highest quality.”

Commenting, Nick Smart, Hilton Worldwide, stated, “Despite what has been a challenging year, we are proud of our partners and their perseverance to bring the project to this stage. The finish line is in sight and this hotel will be a shining light in our portfolio and the historic city of Bath.”

Further to this new hotel development in Bath, McAleer & Rushe is currently on site constructing two hotels for Dominvs Group; a Curio by Hilton in St Paul’s London and a Hampton by Hilton in London Aldgate.
