2m sq. ft. warehouse green lighted at Wakefield Hub

Planning permission has been granted for a new 2,000,000 sq. ft. distribution warehouse at Wakefield Hub, a 200-acre industrial and logistics scheme adjacent to Junction 30 of the M.62 in Yorkshire.

The joint application was made by Newmarket lane Ltd and Mountpark and the decision paves the way for works to start on site in May, which will include a new spine road through the scheme and extensive landscaping. Once the warehouse is complete, it could see the creation of around 1,500 new jobs.

Wakefield Hub is being delivered by Newmarket Lane Ltd, a joint venture between property developers HBD and Yorkcourt.

Wakefield Hub is a prime location for industrial and logistics operators in the North of England, offering unrivaled access to the M62, M1 and A1 and is also one of the largest regeneration projects of its kind in the UK. Regenerating the former Newmarket Colliery site, the development will secure vital inward investment and create thousands of new jobs, helping to create a thriving local economy in Wakefield.

Tom Wheldon, Director and Head of Region at HBD, said: “We are very pleased that the planning committee has approved the application for this latest development at Wakefield Hub – it’s brilliant news for Wakefield and is a huge vote of confidence in the city as a place to invest.”

Scott Mackie, Director of Newmarket Lane Ltd, said: “This latest unit represents a significant milestone for Wakefield Hub – it’s a major occupier and will create a significant number of new jobs.”

The news follows several recent deals at Wakefield Hub, including a new 260, 000 sq. ft. industrial unit to be delivered on behalf of a German pharmaceutical company, and a 65, 000 sq. ft. building for Kitwave, where work has already started on site.
