Travis Perkins acquires site for new Bristol depot

Travis Perkins, the UK’s largest builders’ merchant, has acquired the former Motus Group UK site in the St Philips area of Bristol for redevelopment as a new state of the art flagship branch.

The company, advised by Alder King, purchased the freehold of the 2.7 acre site on Days Road.

A planning application for the redevelopment of the site has now been submitted to create a new 20,000 sq ft depot.

Will Moss of Travis Perkins commented: “The acquisition of this site is an important opportunity to further strengthen our network of branches across Bristol, with the site occupying a high profile location in a well-established trade counter area. We hope to have this new branch open for trade by early 2022.”

Andrew Ridler, Alder King’s lead industrial/logistics partner, said: “It’s unusual for a site like this to become available in this central Bristol location and in a highly competitive environment Travis Perkins reacted quickly to secure the property.”

Motus Group UK is the parent company of Motus Commercials, the largest independent commercial vehicle dealer group in the UK with 30 locations. The sale of its St Philips site enabled it to relocate to new premises in Avonmouth. Motus Group was advised by Knight Frank and NG Chartered Surveyors.

Sunny Landa, director at NG Chartered Surveyors, said: “This is a perfect outcome for our client Motus Group UK and for Travis Perkins.

“Although our heartland is the East Midlands, this important deal just goes to show that we have the knowledge and contacts to help growing businesses and those looking to divest of assets, wherever they may be based. I wish Travis Perkins all the very best with their new site.”

James Scholter, Group Head of Property at Motus Group UK said: “This deal has been a very positive experience for us. Working with Sunny and the NG team has meant we were able to release the property and land to the market in a quick, efficient manner, with the minimum of fuss.

“The transaction enabled us to complete a full relocation of our Bristol site and its services to our new, larger location in Avonmouth that currently undergoing a £1.5m investment.”
