Britannia wins contract for new roundabout and access road to Innsworth Park development

Britannia Construction Ltd has been awarded the contract to take forward the next stage of development at Innsworth Park: a roundabout on the A40 and a new spine road.

The works are being undertaken on behalf of developer Robert Hitchins Ltd, along with GFirst LEP and in collaboration with Highways England and Gloucestershire County Council.

They involve the construction of a roundabout on the A40 between Longford and Elmbridge Court, and a new section of highway from the new roundabout to the proposed business park.

Innsworth Park is a 73-hectare, mixed-use development north of Gloucester which will bring 1,300 homes and hundreds of job opportunities to the area.

The residential part of the development, led by Taylor Wimpey, is well under way and homes consisting of two, three and four bedrooms are already on the market in what is now called Whittle Gardens.

Eventually, the new spine road will stretch from the A40 to Innsworth Lane, opening up access to the residential area, as well as to a 10-acre district centre, a 6.7 acre business park, a 4-acre office park, a new primary school, and sport and leisure facilities.

It will also provide greater connectivity to Churchdown, Staverton and Cheltenham.

Technical and Residential Development Director for Robert Hitchins Ltd, Gordon Jeynes, said: “We’re pleased to see the continued progress of the development.

“Despite new challenges which the pandemic created in the construction industry, we are well on schedule to complete the principal infrastructure by the end of this year.

“The infrastructure will form part of the highway link to Innsworth Lane and open up the opportunity for the business park, office park and district centre to move forward, bringing economic benefit to the area.”

Innsworth Park is three miles from Gloucester with direct access to the A40 and the M5. It is also close to Imjin Barracks and to the Innsworth Technology Park.

The Innsworth Park District Centre will be the largest single provision of local shopping and leisure facilities on the northern side of Gloucester. It benefits from outline planning consent for a supermarket, retail units, pub/restaurant, leisure facilities, health centre, nursery, offices and community uses.

Agents for the District Centre are ARC Retail Property Consultants and Alder King. Agents for the Office Park and Business Park are Alder King and Cushman & Wakefield.
