New Lidl in Kingsway, Gloucester soon to open its doors to customers

Following construction of a new Lidl store in Kingsway, Gloucester, the discount supermarket is in the process of completing its shop fit-out in readiness for an opening on November 26.

Robert Hitchins Ltd has developed the store for Lidl which is occupying the development on a long-term lease from the property company.

Senior Development Manager from Robert Hitchins Ltd, Michael Plimmer, said: “We are really pleased that, having only completed the construction of the development in late summer, Lidl has committed to open the store so quickly despite these challenging times.

“It is also a strong endorsement of the location and the opportunity to provide Kingsway residents with improved choice and variety for their weekly shop.”

The new supermarket – Lidl’s fourth in Gloucester – has a 1,325m² sales area and features an in-store bakery, customer toilet, electric vehicle rapid charging spaces and ample parking for cars and bicycles.

It forms part of the company’s £1.45bn investment in its expansion across Great Britain in 2019 and 2020. Its ongoing success shows no signs of slowing, with the latest Kantar Worldpanel results highlighting Lidl’s increase in sales year on year and market share of 6.1%.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Glen Stidever, commented: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and we are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far. We now look forward to opening our doors and serving our fresh, quality produce to the local community.”

Kingsway has emerged on the site of the former 340-acre RAF Quedgeley. The original masterplan included 3,300 homes, a 40-acre employment site, community and leisure facilities, retail, sports area and primary school.
