Aldi proposes new food store at Innsworth Park District Centre, Gloucester

Robert Hitchins, in partnership with award-winning discount food retailer Aldi, is bringing forward proposals for a new high-quality food store at Innsworth Park District Centre in Gloucester, located off Innsworth Lane and Centurion Road.

The site forms part of the wider Innsworth Park mixed-use development. The residential scheme, Whittle Gardens, is being brought forward in partnership with Taylor Wimpey, while Robert Hitchins is delivering the commercial elements of the development, including employment and retail uses. The principle of a food store at the District Centre has already been established through outline planning consent, and the forthcoming application will seek approval of the detailed design and layout of the proposed Aldi store.

Robert Hitchins and Aldi have launched a pre-application consultation today, Friday 6 March 2026, which will run until midnight on Friday 20 March 2026. Local residents and the wider community are invited to review the plans and provide feedback via the project website.

Key Details of the Proposed Aldi Store in Innsworth:

A multi-million-pound investment of approximately £7 million into the local economy, supporting residents in Innsworth and the wider Gloucester and Cheltenham area.

  • Creation of around 40 new quality full- and part-time jobs, paid at Aldi’s industry-leading rate above the National Living Wage.
  • Delivery of the first phase of the Innsworth Park District Centre, playing an essential role in enabling the delivery of this part of the masterplan and opening up investment across the wider Innsworth Park site.
  • Promotion of more sustainable shopping patterns, helping to reduce the distance residents travel for their main food shop and improving access to affordable, healthy food and fresh produce closer to home.
  • Provision of 118 customer parking spaces, including accessible and parent and child spaces, together with six electric vehicle charging points and ducting to accommodate 20 additional chargers in the future.
  • Additional employment opportunities during construction and through Aldi’s established UK supply chain.
  • High-quality design and attractive landscaping to complement the planned District Centre and create a welcoming, accessible store for the community.

Aldi is already a key investor and employer across Gloucestershire, with existing stores in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury. A new Aldi store at Innsworth would broaden local shopping choice, ensuring residents have access to affordable, high-quality food shopping closer to where they live, while supporting the role of the District Centre in serving the growing local community.

A spokesperson for Aldi said: “We are pleased to be bringing forward proposals for a new Aldi store at Innsworth Park District Centre. The store represents an investment of approximately £7 million in the local area and would create around 40 new quality full- and part-time jobs.

“The principle of a food store at this location has already been established as part of the wider Innsworth Park masterplan, and this application will focus on delivering a high-quality, modern store that serves the growing local community. We encourage residents to visit the consultation website to learn more about the plans and share their views.”

Michael Plimmer, Senior Development Manager at Robert Hitchins, said: “Innsworth Park is a significant mixed-use development for Gloucester, providing new homes, employment space and community facilities. The delivery of a food store is an important part of the approved District Centre and represents the first phase of this element of the scheme.

“Working in partnership with Aldi will help bring forward this key component of the masterplan, providing convenient access to affordable food shopping for local residents while supporting the continued delivery of Innsworth Park.”
