Electric Works becomes Sheffield’s number one digitally connected building

Electric Works, the high-quality 54,000 sq ft managed workspace building located opposite Sheffield’s mainline railway station, has become the first building in Sheffield to achieve a Platinum Wired Certification.

Wired Certification is the global rating scheme for digital connectivity in commercial real estate delivered by WiredScore. It provides tenants with an independent, trusted benchmark and the necessary insights for landlords and developers to improve and future-proof their buildings’ digital connectivity standards.

Currently home to over 100 businesses, Electric Works provides a range of flexible high specification serviced offices in addition to co-working and events space for fast-growing creative, digital, technology and media companies across four storeys. It features the first UK permanent office helter-skelter that sees staff slide down three floors in just seven seconds and is located opposite Sheffield’s mainline train station.

Paul Taylor, Creative Space Management, said: “Innovation is at the heart of the management approach to Electric Works. High-grade IT infrastructure and connectivity are a key part of this and critically important to our target sector of TMT occupiers. WiredScore accreditation has ensured that the building’s occupiers benefit from the best office environment and validates Electric Works as the best-connected building in Sheffield, being the only building in the city to achieve a Platinum rating.”

William Newton, President & EMEA MD, WiredScore said: “With digital connectivity now a critical priority for companies in their workplace, Electric Works has demonstrated a clear commitment to investing in digital infrastructure for its innovative TMT occupiers. Connectivity is fundamental for business as the world becomes more data driven, smarter and customer focused. Electric Works’ tenants will benefit from a level of connectivity able to support the highest technology requirements and ensure the building is future-proofed for years to come.”

Among the building’s many high growth occupiers is Red Star, a 3D animation studio whose first feature film “StarDog and TurboCat” starring Luke Evans, Nick Frost, Gemma Arterton and Bill Nighy, will hit cinemas at the end of the year. Red Star relocated to Electric Works in 2010 due to its prime location and high-calibre IT infrastructure.

Electric Works is managed on behalf of Sheffield City Council by Creative Space Management, an award-winning specialist property management and consultancy company that operates workspaces and urban realm for clusters of knowledge-based businesses.
