Aliva’s ‘golden gateway’ for Europe’s biggest retail park

Aliva UK has created a golden gateway for the city of Liverpool’s new retail park – the biggest in Europe.

The UK leader in in façades and interior finishes designed a stunning random-effect finish of 3,000 sqm of anodised aluminium in nine subtle shades of gold through bronze to silver tones for the £100 million Liverpool shopping park, which welcomes visitors to the city as they arrive off the M62 on to Edge Lane.

The transformation of the city’s key eastern entry corridor has attracted more than 40 major retailers and food outlets, including Marks & Spencer, Next, Boots, Subway and Frankie & Benny’s.

Aliva finished the neighbouring B&Q DIY supercentre in 1,000 sqm variegated shades of orange and silver anodised aluminium, matching the company’s famous livery and completing an extraordinary palette of precious metallic hues for the revamped city approach.

Aliva ‘s sales director Justin Price said: “Architects AEW wanted to give a statement finish to the shopping park, which gives visitors a first taste of the huge variety of modern and classical architecture on show in this beautiful city.

“We worked closely with AEW to test many different combinations of the nine colours with different panel sizes to create a variety of graduated and ‘random’ patterns for the façades. The aim was to give each store an individual look while maintaining an identity across the project.”

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said: “Liverpool Shopping Park is a welcome addition to the city’s retail offer and to the Edge Lane corridor. A great deal of progress has been made to improve the overall experience for people arriving in to the city from the M62, and the Liverpool Shopping Park has certainly been part of that. It has also provided a huge amount of investment and created much needed jobs for the area.”
