Britannia wins new Tesco store contract

Britannia Construction, based in Cheltenham,  has been awarded a £3 million contract for the construction of a new flagship Tesco store in Glastonbury by the joint venture partnership of Chelverton CB Ltd. The 45,000 sq ft store, on the outskirts of Glastonbury, is situated on the former site of Avalon Plastics, who have since relocated to the adjacent Morlands Enterprise Park.

Cheltenham based Britannia will be undertaking a fast track build over 16 weeks, which will enable Tesco to fit-out and be operational in time for the Christmas trading period. The store will have car parking for 224 vehicles.
Paul Halfpenny, managing director of Britannia says, “With our established experience in fast track delivery programmes for the retail sector, we are delighted to have been awarded this contract, and look forward to bringing Glastonbury’s new Tesco superstore to fruition.
“Time is of the essence with this build, and we will be keeping the local community informed of progress throughout the time we are on site.”

The contract with Chelverton CB Ltd is a result of Britannia’s successful track record of projects with Chelverton Developments, and follows its recent completion of a 120,000 sq ft Tesco Extra store for Morbaine at the Ashley Retail Park in Widnes which opened this spring.
