Glasgow office building wins Green Apple award

One of Glasgow’s newest mixed-use developments has won a sought after environmental award for its glowing eco-friendly credentials and energy performance.

110 Queen Street, an eight storey building offering 164,000 sq ft of retail and office space in Glasgow’s city centre, scooped a Silver award at the Scottish Green Apple Environment Awards on 5 March 2018.

Constructed in 2015 the building is encased within a striking concave façade of curtain wall glazing. It is located on the site of the former Bank of Scotland Building in Glasgow City Centre.

110 Queen Street was recognised by the judges for its excellent BREAM rating, energy performance and for creating an engaging environment for tenants which pulls on environmental design features and green facilities throughout.

The property has a green roof consisting of a Sedum planting system which is designed as a wildlife habitat and has a bespoke recycling system to handle paper and dry waste, glass, food and batteries in order to create zero waste for landfill.

Ann Burns, Associate Director at JLL in Glasgow, said: “We’re delighted for 110 Queen Street, which is one of Scotland’s greenest office buildings, to be recognised with this award. Not only is it visually striking, but it is one of the most sustainable offices it is possible to build. With ultra-green utility use and a waste management system designed to keep the building from contributing anything to landfill waste, it is truly one of the most modern builds in Glasgow.”

110 Queen Street competed against more than 500 other nominations in the Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice. Building Manager, Eileen Buchanan together with other representatives from JLL, who manage the building, were presented with a trophy and certificate at a glittering presentation ceremony at the CMS Innovation Hub in Cumbernauld on 5 March 2018.

Launched in 1994, the awards recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world. This year Green Apple launched The Scottish Awards.

The property is owned on behalf of clients of DWS and tenants include ACCA, Brodies LLP, Deloitte LLP, DWF LLP, Grant Thornton and WSP.
