Wales’ best businesses honoured at glittering awards ceremony

All the winners celebrate with Secretary of State for Wales Alun Cairns

The winners of The South Wales Chamber of Commerce Welsh Business Awards 2017 have been revealed at a glittering awards ceremony held at City Hall in Cardiff, with businesses from across Wales recognised for their innovation, growth and success.

The night’s biggest winner was Treforest-based Concrete Canvas Ltd who won the Success Through Innovation and Success Through Overseas Trade categories before being named Welsh Business of the Year.

The company produces a flexible, concrete impregnated fabric that hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable, water proof and fire resistant concrete layer.

Peter Brewin, Co-Director, Concrete Canvas Ltd said: “When our name was called for the first time we were absolutely delighted but to be called back to the stage three times was completely overwhelming. These awards are testament to the hard-work that the team has put in over the last 18 months and I couldn’t be prouder of all that we have achieved.”

Heather Myers, Director of South and Mid Wales Chamber of Commerce said: “The calibre of entries for this year’s Awards was extremely high and I think we have ended up with some very worthy winners.

“Concrete Canvas is an innovative, globally ambitious company that is making an impact for the Welsh economy, while demonstrating a strong focus on future growth and an understanding of how to make this happen.”

The University of South Wales was headline sponsor for this year’s awards, alongside category sponsors Western Power Distribution, Pro Steel Engineering, Barclays Bank, Heart Radio, Atradius, Port of Milford Haven, and Effective Communication.

Professor Dylan Jones-Evans, Assistant Pro-Vice Chancellor of University of South Wales, said: “This year’s awards were the most hotly contested yet and it was very heartening to see so many Welsh companies really pushing the envelope in terms of their achievements. Congratulations to everyone who was shortlisted, especially the winners.”

A record number of entries were submitted for this year’s Welsh Business Awards, with entries up by 19% on previous years and more companies than ever before making the final shortlist.

The awards aim to recognise the very best from businesses nationwide. Welsh businesses, whether small, medium or large, all play a fundamental role in driving the economy forward.
