Pedal power means pounds for charity

The Bristol office of independent property adviser GVA has contributed a massive 27,807 miles in one year to a campaign raising funds for a national charity for disabled children.

GVA’s Bristol-based staff joined with their colleagues from  the firm’s other 11 offices throughout the UK, logging their respective miles travelled per day. Each mile was matched with a donation dependent on the form of travel. Walking to work counted for 10p per mile; cycling generated a pound per mile; and running was matched with £10 per mile.

Under GVA’s Miles Matter campaign, the company has now donated just shy of £27,000 to the Whizz-Kidz charity, which provides disabled children with the wheelchairs and other mobility equipment they need to lead fun and active childhoods.

Victoria Oliver from GVA’s Bristol office, said: “Many of our colleagues in Bristol have taken to cycling or walking into work on a daily basis now having been enthused by this campaign. One person alone has clocked up nearly 8,000 miles between his home and work.”
