Blooming marvellous decade at Brindleyplace

Birmingham florist and gift store Ethos is celebrating ten years at its Brindleyplace base.

A decade ago the shop upped sticks from Harborne, where it was originally founded by owner
Mark Gribben in 2000, and has flourished ever since.

In 2010, Ethos successfully grafted the 70-year old Margaret Tregoning store and its Interflora membership to the Ethos group.

An online presence, www.ethosflowers.com, promoted via social media, has also boosted the shop’s income stream in challenging times.

In addition to the consumer side of its business, Ethos also has a blossoming corporate base. The florist is responsible for the floral displays in many of Birmingham’s key offices, hotels and bars and has recently added Deutsche Bank, Marketing Birmingham and Brown Shipley to its client roster.

Ethos has become the city centre “florist of choice”, says founder Mark.

He added: “Moving from our suburban roots to the city centre seemed a huge gamble a decade ago, and although it has been hard work we haven’t looked back.”

The Ethos shop is at Brunswick Square, Brindleyplace. The estate was originally developed by Argent, and was acquired by Hines Moorfield in 2009.

Mark said: “Gary Taylor, formerly managing director of Argent, was encouraging from the start and our new landlords, Hines Moorfield, have been equally supportive. We have gone from strength to strength and look forward to another ten years of growth at Brindleyplace.”

Igor Mathias, asset manager at Hines Moorfield said: “Ethos may be one of our smaller tenants but Mark and Ethos make Brindleyplace more colourful in every sense! The shop’s frontage on Brunswick Square is a huge talking point for visitors and the Ethos offer is very important to our tenants in Brindleyplace and the surrounding neighbourhood. We wish them a very Happy Birthday.”
