New baby store aiming to fill gap in market in South Bristol

A new independent shop selling everything a baby might need has opened in Bedminster, Bristol just days after Mothercare announced it is to close 100 stores across the country.

The family-run Our Baby Needs has opened at 98 St John’s Lane, Bedminster with the aim of helping young mums and dads find everything they might need to care for a baby.

The shop is also stocking a range of quality used buggies, car seats and baby equipment alongside new baby and maternity clothes, feeding equipment and bedding.

Our Baby Needs is run by Nicky Manners and Hayley Sansom who are aiming to become the one stop shop for baby supplies in South Bristol.

Nicky said: “People might think it is an odd time to launch a new shop when major chains like Mothercare and the Early Learning Centre are closing stores but we believe we have a special offering for the people of Bedminster and Knowle as we are right on their doorstep but we also believe that people from wider Bristol will enjoy shopping here.

“Many people are struggling to find the quality equipment they need at prices they can afford so that is why we are stocking quality used buggies, car seats, cots and other expensive items. Babies grow fast and equipment can sometimes only be used for a short time.

“We can also source items for people and aim to provide all the needs of a baby from a pregnant mum through to four years old.”

Our baby Needs has produced a questionnaire allowing customers to rate  the  most  important items they would like to see stocked alongside the wide range of goods on offer and which they would prefer to buy new or would consider buying as a quality used product.

The shop is also looking at offering buggy and pram repairs through an arrangement with the nearby workshops of disability specialists Access Able.

Hayley Sansom will be adding additional interest with her own range of Bumble Tots clothing which she makes on the premises. She will be taking commissions on items similar to those in her existing range, working with customers to create bespoke baby items.

She said: “We are encouraging mums and dads to pop in after taking kids to school and pick up what they need.”

Our Baby Needs also offers baby changing facilities for maternity wear and has a ramp for ease of access for mums with pushchairs and buggies.
