Fareham law firm underpins expansion with City-style rigour

An expanding Fareham law firm has come of age in good health with strategic ‘City-level’ input from a top business advisor.

Graeme Quar & Co. is celebrating its 18th birthday following a 34% increase in turnover in the last financial year and a new office in Petersfield to add to its Fareham headquarters.

The growth reflects ongoing success in the commercial property and business law markets with an expanding client base of SMEs and large companies.

To fine-tune his firm’s strategy and ensure his solicitors continue to meet performance targets, Managing Director Graeme Quar turned to Sue Warden-Owen of the Warsash business consultancy, MHL Business Coaching.

Mr Quar said: “Sue has a City background and was able to bring a level of astute, strategic input that you would normally only find in the boardrooms of FTSE companies. Her coaching, mentoring and application of City financial disciplines have been ideal for us along with her ability to level with the team on important issues face to face.”

MHL’s input involved a critical appraisal of billable time in the firm. Actual time spent with clients was compared against target modelling and legal industry norms, leading to an agreed improvement plan.
“As a result, our solicitors made such an increase in fee time efficiency it has helped our overall team of eleven grow our turnover by 34%,” Mr Quar added.

As well as better time efficiency, the consultancy work has supported a new social media strategy, case management IT systems, customer service training and a 90-day plan for every team member.
Mrs Warden-Owen said: “Graeme Quar & Co is a go-getting, thriving and dynamic business. They recognised the benefits of working with a business consultant to input new ideas, increase business efficiencies and develop a varied and detailed marketing programme.”

As well as a City background focusing mainly on mergers and acquisition, Mrs Warden-Owen has industry experience of running multi-million pound marketing budgets and providing PR services to blue-chip clients.
