North Midland Construction Plc celebrate 70 years

Huthwaite based provider of civil engineering, building, mechanical and electrical services North Midland Construction plc (NM Group) started its 70th anniversary celebrations with a special event for past and present employees of the company and their partners.

A total of 1,200 people came from all over the country to enjoy an afternoon and evening of activities and entertainment, including a variety of fairground rides such as a ferris wheel and dodgems.  There were also various traditional fairground stalls and employees had the opportunity to throw wet sponges at directors, including the company’s executive chairman Robert Moyle, whilst they were in the stocks.  In addition there were live bands and a disco and then the day was rounded off with a firework display.

Some of the activities, including a prize draw with prizes donated by the company’s supply chain partners, were designed to raise money for various charities. The benefiting charities are Canine Partners, Age UK and Water Aid as well as a number of local heart and cancer charities chosen by each of the company’s regional offices.

“The company’s 70th anniversary was a great opportunity to bring together all of our people from all over the country as well as past employees to celebrate this major milestone in the company’s long history,” said Robert Moyle, executive chairman of the NM Group. “Our people are really important to us and their contribution to the business is invaluable so we wanted to thank them for all their hard work and dedication over the years by putting on this special event for them.  We also wanted to raise money for a variety of charities.  It was a great event enjoyed by all.”

A team of people drawn from the various divisions within in the company and led by executive director with responsibility for HR, Karen Morris, worked together to organise the event which is the culmination of twelve months’ of planning.  The event took place at Goosedale at Papplewick, just outside Nottingham.
