Next generation of architects present their work at Silvertown’s iconic Millennium Mills

15 Masters students from the University of East London (UEL) have had the opportunity to showcase their architecture work at the iconic Millennium Mills in Silvertown, East London.

The School of Architecture Computing and Engineering at UEL have partnered with The Silvertown Partnership (TSP) to help shape the future of Silvertown, a seven million square foot development located in London’s Royal Docks.

The £3.5bn redevelopment of Silvertown will see the Millennium Mills restored and transformed into a new home for the next generation of digital and creative start-up businesses. The Silvertown development will bring 3,000 homes  to East London and create 21,000 jobs.

The brief challenged UEL students to push the creative boundaries and outline how they saw the future of Silvertown.  The project work formed the basis of the student’s final portfolio submission.   Students were able to develop their final assessment portfolio with support from industry experts and key Silvertown partners.

The UEL Unit 4 Architecture Show was the result of the work with designs showcased in one of the large spaces within Millennium Mills. The unit was led by lecturer Roland Karthaus and practising architect and part-time tutor Dinah Bornat.

Daniel May, Head of Design at The Silvertown Partnership, said; “I’m very impressed by the quality of the work the students have produced and of the way they have conducted themselves in a professional manner. The hard work they have put in over the last 8 months has really paid off, with this event being a perfect example.

“The real world experience they have gained will become invaluable in the years to come and everyone at Silvertown wishes them the best of luck in their future architecture careers.”
