Aluminium firm helping to develop Caerphilly ‘Super School’

Welsh aluminium fabricators Dudley’s Aluminium is due to begin work on a £25m secondary school in Caerphilly later this year.

Islwyn School, which is being built on the former Oakdale Colliery site, will replace the Oakdale and Pontllanfraith secondary schools and is due to open before September 2016.

Dudley’s has secured a £550k contract to provide essential aluminium façade and glazing fixtures at the site, including creating and installing custom-made curtain walling, windows and doors. The company will work closely with AluK aluminium systems for the first time to complete the project.

The development of Islwyn School is being supported through the 21st Century Schools programme, which is funded and managed by the Welsh Government and local authorities.

Commenting on Dudley’s contract, managing director Colin Shorney said: “We always enjoy working with the education sector in Wales due to the importance of the projects for the local communities. We are looking forward to working at Islwyn School, and hope our work at the site showcases the expertise we have in the sector. We are also very happy to be working with AluK for the first time.”

Dudley’s work at Islwyn School isn’t the only Welsh education sector project the company will be completing in 2016. The company is also due to complete a £1.1m contract to help develop Cardiff University’s new state-of-the-art brain imaging research centre (commonly referred to as ‘CUBRIC’).

Dudley’s reputation for quality has been recognised with several industry-related accreditations. The company is CHAS and Achilles accredited, Constructionline registered, and certified to manufacture “Secured by Design” products.

Established in 1993, Dudley’s Aluminium offers clients full in-house design and production facilities, and has completed many successful and prestigious education, health, commercial, retail and defence sector projects throughout the UK and Channel Islands.
