Liberty Properties Developments Ltd has been selected by the Welsh Government as the preferred developer for a major leisure development opportunity in Bangor which could create up to 400 full time and part time jobs.
Liberty’s proposals for the site at the entrance to Parc Bryn Cegin include a multi-screen cinema, five restaurants, a family pub and a Welsh produce shop with the possibility to include a Tourist Information Centre and a drive through coffee shop.
Going forward Liberty will be liaising closely with Gwynedd Council regarding the development proposals.
The company anticipates that the development could create up to 100 full time jobs and between 250-300 part time jobs (representing 170 -190 full time equivalent) creating a range of employment opportunities for local residents.
The selection of Liberty follows a comprehensive marketing campaign by the Welsh Government and submissions were received from four other prospective developers.
Economy Minister Edwina Hart said: “ I am pleased to announce that Liberty Properties Development has been selected as the preferred developer to take forward plans for a leisure development on land at the entrance to Parc Bryn Cegin.
“The proposals, which will be subject to statutory approvals, will have the potential to create employment opportunities that would provide a significant benefit for the local community and could also act as a catalyst to attract further investment to the site.”
Liberty Development Director Emyr Williams said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Welsh Government to promote a high quality, destination, family leisure scheme, at Bryn Cegin. We believe this will act as a catalyst to “kick start” the Bryn Cegin employment site, but also to act as a quality attraction for Bangor, as both a major university city and North West Wales’ regional centre.
“We will work closely with Gwynedd Council and the local community to create real jobs and significant inward investment, in to North West Wales!”
Councillor Mandy Williams-Davies, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Economy said: “Bryn Cegin is an important site which has the potential to create significant job opportunities for the area. Following today’s announcement we look forward to discussing possible opportunities with the company.”
Liberty Properties has been established for over 25 years and is focused in the retail, leisure and commercial sector and was responsible for developing the first multiplex centre in North West Wales, at the Junction Leisure Park, bringing in Cineworld, on a 31,000 sq ft multiplex cinema.
Liberty has a track record of developing in North Wales, which includes the County Court in Caernarfon; Homebase in Holyhead; Matalan and Brantano in Rhyl; Probation Service in Colwyn Bay and Barclays Premier Bank facility in Parc Menai, together with numerous retail and office developments in Wrexham.
