National survey places Peterborough 17th in ‘Top 100 Hot Retail Locations’ of 2015

A report complied exclusively for Property Week by location experts CACI has placed Peterborough within the Top 20 ‘Hot Retail Locations in the UK 2015’.

The research, which focuses on the top 100 locations in the UK that have the greatest capacity to support more mass-market retail brands, has studied the current retail offering of each location compared with the affluence of its catchment.

Julian Welch, Director and retail property specialist at Barker Storey Matthews commented “This latest report clearly indicates the strength of Peterborough as a retail destination, and the appeal that it offers to retailers seeking new sites. The research focuses on mass market brands, which is refreshing since most reports of this type tend to look at high end brands and affluent locations. Whilst these reports may be of interest to premium priced designer labels, they do not reflect the needs of the majority of consumers.”

“Mass market operators appeal to the majority of middle income earners and at the same time you see affluent customers ‘trading down’ and less affluent customers ‘trading up’ in order to buy goods from them. It is perhaps the best measure of mainstream retailing in the UK, and it is therefore extremely encouraging to see Peterborough placed so highly within the rankings.”

He added, “The report confirms what the local population has recognised for some time; Peterborough continues to be a great place to shop but has the capacity to attract and sustain even more brands and this is something the retailing community in the City continues to strive to achieve”.
