£50,000 raised by Lincs agent and team on European charity ride

430 miles, five days, five punctures and one tumble – the Munich to Berlin bike ride recently undertaken by Tim Downing, senior partner at Pygott & Crone, which raised a whopping £50,000 for charity.

Tim took part in the ride earlier this month (9 – 13 Sept) with a 16-strong team which includes riders from other firms throughout the country, all committed to completing the ninth leg of Pygott and Crone’s Tour of Europe charity ride, which started in 2007.

Over the last nine years, the team has covered more than 3,000 miles and has now risen over £380,000 for charity.

This year the team was again joined by the pro-cyclist and World Championship silver medallist, Tony Gibb, who proved to be an invaluable member of the team with his knowledge and passion for the sport.

Tim said: “Crossing the finish line at Brandenburg Gate in Berlin was an incredible feeling after so many miles in the saddle and was the perfect end to our adventure. It was an incredible ride with beautiful scenery and challenging inclines and I’m so pleased with how much we have raised as a team – more than we had expected which is fantastic.

“The camaraderie on the ride was brilliant which really helps the team to stay focussed and motivated and as each year, we had cyclists from firms in Hull and Merseyside and my good friends at developers Dransfield Properties, who are the owners of the award winning Marshalls Yard shopping centre in Gainsborough.

“The whole team is thrilled by how much we have raised and we would like to thank everyone who supported us. I’m already looking forward to the next leg which will be Berlin to Copenhagen next year which is 393 miles.”

The team has, once again, chosen to support Leukemia and Lymphoma Research (LLR), Action Against Cancer and The Dransfield Foundation – a foundation established to help support local causes and community projects and initiatives

The money donated to LLR will support the Trial Acceleration Programme which accelerates clinical trials across the UK. This allows new drugs and treatments to be tested faster than ever before in order to deliver life-saving treatments to blood cancer patients.

Action Against Cancer’s donation will support ground-breaking research projects which focus on developing new diagnostics and treatments to improve the survival prospects and quality of life for millions of cancer sufferers.
