First orders as national pub chain makes its move on South Wales

A national pub chain that operates 115 pubs across the UK has chosen Swansea as the location for its first pub in South Wales.

Amber Taverns has bought the former Retro club on St Mary’s Street, adjacent to Wind Street, with Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) negotiating the terms of the deal.

The national commercial property consultancy has sold the 15,428 sq ft four storey building on a freehold basis to Amber Taverns as part of the pub chain’s ongoing strategy to acquire freehold pubs and bars in town centre locations.

Acting on behalf of the freeholder, West Register, Tom Rees of LSH’s agency team comments: “This is a positive transaction and one that will breathe new life into a vacant building adding to the vibrancy of the Wind Street area.”

“We’re excited about expanding our operation into South Wales and looking forward to starting the transformation of the building which will reopen mid November,” says Amber Taverns joint managing director, Bryan Wardman.

“We are passionate about our pubs and bars and will be creating something very special for the Wind street area, which is the established hub of the city’s vibrant leisure scene.”

Amber Taverns operates pubs across North Wales, North West and East England, Yorkshire and the Midlands.
