American burger joint Five Guys is set to make its mark on Swansea city centre’s regeneration programme, as it prepares to move into the recently-completed Castle Quarter, creating 35 new jobs.

The restaurant will occupy almost 4,000 square feet on the ground floor of the new £8m complex adjacent to Swansea Castle.

Castle Quarter which also includes 26 affordable apartments for rent and four for sale, was developed by Coastal Housing as part of its extensive investment in regeneration projects across the city centre.

The 35 jobs being created by Five Guys for its distinctive American-style eating establishment will add to the jobs already created for local people by Las Iguanas restaurant which moved into the new quarter during the summer.

Coastal Housing’s Commercial Co-ordinator, Helen Jones, said “We are thrilled to have finalised a long-term lease with Five Guys as this helps us in our drive to bring people back to live and work in the city centre.

“The arrival of an international food and drink brand like Five Guys will provide a great boost to the High Street area. We hope it will act as a shot in the arm for future investment potential in the city centre.”

Five Guys opened its first UK restaurant in 2013, expanding across the UK ever since. The Castle Quarter restaurant will be Five Guys’ second branch in Wales.

Commenting on the Swansea opening John Eckbert, CEO of Five Guys UK said: “We’re very excited to be launching in the city. Wales is a very important part of our expansion plans, and we are so pleased we found this prominent site with such a great view of Swansea Castle. The new Castle Quarter development is sure to attract a host of new residents, workers and shoppers who we hope will also become our customers.

“We can’t wait to introduce Swansea to what we have to offer and look forward to serving our first burgers in this bustling city,” he added.
