Contract Services names Tŷ Hafan as its official ‘Charity of the Year’

Port Talbot-based construction contractor, Contract Services, has named Tŷ Hafan as its charity of the year.

The company will work in partnership with Tŷ Hafan and raise funds for the charity over the next 12 months.

Tŷ Hafan is one of the UK’s leading paediatric palliative care charities and provides support and assistance to children and families in Wales.

Since opening in 1999 the charity has helped nearly 600 children and their families across Wales and currently helps 20 children in the Neath Port Talbot region.

Contract Services is aiming to raise £10,000 for Tŷ Hafan over the coming months and has a number of events lined up to raise funds for the charity.

Peter Thomas, Managing Director at Contract Services said: “We are delighted to be supporting Tŷ Hafan over the next 12 months. They provide a number of essential services to children and their families across Wales, including Port Talbot, and we hope that our fundraising can go some way to helping those who require the charity’s services.”

This June, female employees from the company took part in Tŷ Hafan’s onesie night-time walk at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. All women taking part started the walk with a lap of the stadium’s pitch before walking a 5k or 10k route around some of Cardiff’s biggest landmarks.

During the summer the company will also host a golf day and family fun day. Both events were incredibly successful in 2014 and will bring together staff employees and their families to help raise funds for Tŷ Hafan.

Staff at Contract Services will also be raising funds for Tŷ Hafan by taking part in the three peaks challenge in 2016. The challenge will see staff trek across Mount Snowdon in North Wales, Cadair Idris in mid-Wales, and Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons.

Rebecca Chick, Business and Community Fundraiser at Tŷ Hafan, said: “We are thrilled that Contract Services has chosen to support Tŷ Hafan as its charity of the year. Their support will help life-limited children and their families make the most of the time they have left together. We need to raise around £10,000 each day to provide our services and rely heavily on the generosity of organisations like Contract Services to care for families in need of our support.”
