Retail giant takes large strides towards new store in West Cornwall

It has been confirmed that a new branch of ‘The Range’ DIY and leisure superstore will go ahead near Penzance as building work begins to prepare a site big enough for the new store at the Questmap Business Park at Long Rock.

Demolition of an existing warehouse on a long-derelict site next to the Solo builder’s merchants at Long Rock and immediately behind the forecourt of Chris Nicholls Motors is well underway.

Developers are creating enough space for the 2,323 metre square store 464-square metre garden centre and 172 parking spaces due to be completed by November this year.

The Range chain is owned and run by 62-year-old former Plymouth market trader and now billionaire Chris Dawson, who has many stores across the UK.

Southampton based developers Questmap own and manages the majority of the Long Rock industrial estate and is leading the development of the new store as well as 14 houses and another 7,000 square feet of commercial buildings.

Chartered Surveyors Miller Commercial are marketing Questmap’s available industrial units at Long rock. Mary Rose Callaghan Commercial Surveyor at Miller Commercial says the development is news for nearby business.

She says “We’re expecting a significant rise in footfall on the estate which will not only benefit the existing businesses here but also presents an great opportunity for retail or trade counter use in the available units left on the estate.

We are currently marketing 3 available units adjacent to The Range at around 7,000 sq. ft. they’re all suitable for trade counter premises.

We’re also marketing, by way of pre-let 4,800 sq. of office space which is currently under construction.
