Thrings takes a hike for Bath charities

Leading commercial law firm Thrings is set to field its largest-ever team of hikers for this year’s Bath Men’s Walk which takes place on 21 March.

The annual eight-mile event, which supports the work of local charities Bath Rugby Foundation and Dorothy House Hospice Care, is expected to attract a total of 550 men and boys – an increase of more than 100 from last year.

Legendary ITV West Country weather presenter Bob Crampton will get proceedings underway at 1pm as ramblers make their way from Dorothy House’s headquarters in Winsley to the Rec, the home of Bath Rugby. On completion of the walk, they will have the opportunity to enjoy a free ‘pie and pint’ while watching the Six Nations clash between England and France on the big screen.

Among those on the start line will be a team of male walkers from event partners Thrings, a long-time supporter of both charities.

Organisers are hoping the event will raise £20,000 for Bath Rugby Foundation, which aims to enhance the lives of young people through sport, and Dorothy House Hospice Care, which provides free specialist nursing care at home for people with life-threatening illnesses.

Simon Holdsworth, Managing Partner of Thrings and a member of the firm’s walking team, said: “Since the inaugural event in 2013, the Bath Men’s Walk has really caught the imagination of people from in and around the city.

“Our walkers are tremendously excited about donning their hiking boots, completing the trek and raising funds for Bath Rugby Foundation and Dorothy House, two charities with which Thrings is proud to have enjoyed long-term partnerships. Watching ‘Le Crunch’ from the comfort of a well-earned seat at the Rec with a pie and a pint will also provide a wonderful incentive to get round the course.”

Halena Coury, Head of Fundraising for Bath Rugby Foundation, added: “Bath Rugby Foundation is delighted to be working alongside Dorothy House Hospice Care and Thrings once again. We are aiming to increase the number of walkers again this year, so urge you all to get your friends involved and enjoy a great day out.

“Bath Men’s Walk is perfect for men and boys who fancy a not-too-strenuous walk along the canal, followed by a great pie and a pint (or two) and a game of rugby. With an ‘unofficial’ pit stop or two along the way, it’s a great way to get a bit of exercise, have lots of fun and enjoy watching a hard fought international match with some of your mates. We look forward to welcoming all walkers back to the Rec.”
