New chapter opens for McAndrew Martin at 25th anniversary party

An expanding firm of Portsmouth chartered surveyors, engineers and architects has made its second acquisition of the year.

Directors of McAndrew Martin announced the deal for Veness Chartered Surveyors at their 25th anniversary party at the top of the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.

Nearly 200 guests attended McAndrew Martin’s silver celebration at the iconic landmark, including staff, their families, friends, suppliers, clients, business associates and the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Steven Wylie.

McAndrew Martin, which has worked on Buckingham Palace and Horseguards Parade in London, joins forces with Cosham-based Veness chartered surveyors after previously taking over the Brunel Design Group in January.

McAndrew Martin managing director Bill McAndrew said: “The acquisition of Veness Chartered Surveyors was the perfect way to celebrate our 25th anniversary.

“The merger of two well-established and like-minded companies will create one of the leading independent practices in the Portsmouth area.

“After a successful quarter of a century in business, it means we can look forward to the next 25 years with even greater confidence.”

McAndrew Martin, which is based at the Fairway Business Centre, has agreed terms for the acquisition of Veness Chartered Surveyors with effect from October 1.

It will be business as usual for both of the firms as the take-over takes effect in the following months.

Veness was founded in 1973 and has clients throughout Hampshire and Sussex.

Founding director Ken Veness said: “Veness Chartered Surveyors and McAndrew Martin are a terrific fit.

“This merger is a milestone in the history of both companies and will allow us to move forward together to an exciting future.”

More than £800 was raised from a raffle for Help for Heroes at the 25th anniversary party at the Spinnaker Tower – making a total of  £4,300 raised for the charity in 2014.

The silver celebration at the top of the famous landmark included a champagne reception, food, music, a speech from director Ian Lee and a birthday cake.

Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Steven Wylie said: “Congratulations to McAndrew Martin.

“They have made their mark on many buildings in Portsmouth and around the country over the past 25 years.

‘It shows just what can be achieved with great talent and dedication.”

McAndrew Martin chartered surveyors, engineers, architects and designers has over 20 staff.

It has clients across the south, London and home counties. They include defence estates, schools, health authorities, Royal palaces and private customers.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. The anniversary even took place last Friday evening (September 5).
