Midlands-based solicitor shortlisted for national law award

A leading Midlands-based solicitor has been shortlisted for a prestigious national law award.

Alwyn Jones, a director at Cartwright King, is shortlisted in the Solicitor Advocate of the Year category at the Law Society Excellence Awards.

The awards, which will be held on 9th October in London, recognise the best legal work carried out by law firms and individuals across in the country.

Based at Cartwright King’s Nottingham office, Jones is a heavyweight advocate dealing exclusively with serious offences and regularly appears in high profile cases at Crown Courts, the Old Bailey and the Court of Appeal.

As one of the first solicitors to be certified as a Higher Rights Advocate by the National Law Society in 1995, Jones is a pioneer in the legal industry and is one of the few Higher Court Advocates to be appointed to the Very High Cost Case panel, enabling him to appear as Counsel in the most complex of cases.

Cartwright King’s managing director Rupert Hawke said: “We are pleased to announce Alwyn’s inclusion in this highly prestigious shortlist.  The Law Society Excellence Awards are the most respected awards in the industry and for the judging panel to recognise Alywn’s achievements is testament to the outstanding work he has done throughout his career.

“Alwyn’s entry reinforced his pioneering spirit, his abilities as a solicitor advocate, and his durability in the most demanding of arenas.  His shortlisting recognises the challenge the profession faces and the extent to which solicitors are rising to the challenges faced in the practice of criminal law.

“We look forward to joining the other leading law firms from across the country at these prestigious awards to celebrate the finest talent within the industry.”
