Tweedale design new printing facility at Wolverhampton business park

Tweedale Architects were recently appointed by International Security Printers Limited (ISP) to design their brand new printing facility at the prestigious i54 Business Park near Wolverhampton. This 70,000 sq ft facility incorporates a high security, climate controlled print works alongside testing and quality control facilities. The admin offices include reception facilities for global dignitaries.

The new site is approximately 11 miles from their existing site in Walsall. ISP have a world wide client base and have produced postage stamps for 180 different countries and are considered to be one of the worlds leading authorities in their field.

Tweedale designed an eye-catching building for ISP, which will provide an iconic headquarter building for the companies operations. Tweedale Director Michael Bates said “We were delighted to be appointed by ISP to design such an iconic building for them, They have an enviable client list and we are proud to be associated with their brand new facility.”

The façade design incorporates an aluminium rain screen system, where coloured panels grade from right to left reflecting the overlay of tones in the printing process. The louvred ‘brise-soleil’ feature at the entrance canopy reflects the layering of sheets of paper as they come from the press. The use of wooden textures and pebbles with water features allude to the raw materials used in the printing process.

The project is now complete and ISP is commencing pre-production runs using the new £2million “Gravure Press” installation.
