Pick Everard is set to compete with property firms across the capital at the RICS London awards ceremony, which will take place at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel on 22 May.
The multi-disciplinary architectural and engineering partnership, which is based in High Holborn, is up for an award in the design through innovation category for its work at St Mary’s C of E primary in Twickenham.
The £4 million project saw the conversion of the former St John’s Hospital into a school due to the huge increase in demands for school places in the area.
Pick Everard provided design, project and cost management services throughout the project, which was awarded a BREEAM Very Good rating.
Jo Griffin-Shaw, partner at Pick Everard, said: “There has been a considerable amount of pressure put on the London Borough of Richmond to create more school places and they were forced to look at innovative solutions to deliver these.
“The former hospital presented us with a series of challenges, for example the possibility of damaging or deforming the existing roof structure when undertaking work on the load bearing walls inside, and its location next to the Grade II listed Amyand House.
“Following significant consultation with stakeholders, we were able to deliver excellent educational facilities with a modern design while preserving the fabric and character of the original building.
“The firm has a great deal of experience in the blue light and education sectors, and this nomination is proof that the work we are doing is of the highest quality and that we achieve excellent results for our clients.”
The RICS awards demonstrate how property professionals use their skills to develop, regenerate and conserve the environment in which they live and work.
Winners in the community benefit, building conservation, regeneration and design through innovation categories will be entered into the national awards, which will take place at the Savoy in London on 17 October.
