CPMG architects to lead the development of Rushcliffe Arena

Nottingham-based CPMG have been appointed as architects on the redevelopment of the Rushcliffe Arena in West Bridgford to create a range of new sports and leisure facilities as well as a new Civic Centre for Rushcliffe Borough Council.

CPMG, a well established and highly regarded architectural practice with particular expertise in the commercial office and leisure sectors has been appointed as a result of a competitive tendering process alongside GT Architects, specialists in the design of leisure centres and swimming pools.

A public consultation held at the end of 2013 delivered largely positive feedback from local residents and this is helping to shape the design.

The aim is to make Rushcliffe Arena the leisure destination of choice in West Bridgford. The plan is to create top-class swimming facilities including a six-lane, 25m pool and a learner pool. There is also scheduled to be a health and fitness suite, a sports hall, bowls facilities and a high-quality cafe.

Within the same development there are plans to accommodate Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Civic Centre which would move from Pavilion Road. However the Council’s main public contact point will remain at its current location at West Bridgford Police Station.

This extension of Rushcliffe Arena will make the most of the space on the site and create a multi-purpose facility at heart of the local community.

CPMG’s designs are based on Passivhaus principles to ensure the development is highly energy-efficient. These principles aim to provide maximum user comfort with minimal energy usage for heating and cooling. This is particularly well suited to a leisure centre which has precise temperature requirements.

“Its great news that we have been appointed as architects for this high profile scheme in West Bridgford,” said Richard Flisher, a director at CPMG. “Our experience of designing buildings in Passivhaus has played an important part in our appointment because of the significant energy savings that can be achieved.”

CPMG are an architectural firm who have been designing building projects in the East Midlands for over 30 years and providing interior design services for over 15 years. Working across all major sectors, CPMG are regularly recognised for their excellence, winning awards such as the Sustainable Development of the Year award in 2012 at the East Midlands Property Awards for their Passivhaus Zero Carbon Office in Leicestershire.

GT Architects are also a local Nottingham practice with over 40 years of combined experience in the sport and leisure industry. Mark Gowdridge, a director of GT Architects said:

“It is important to us that we have the opportunity of working with our local community to develop a building that everyone can be proud of. We look forward to delivering this exciting project.”

A planning application is due to be submitted in May 2014.
